Rich was originally raised on the streets of New York City playing stick ball and street hockey on roller skates. He had always dreamed of adventuring into nature and the wilderness. At 13 years old that dream partly came true when his family moved to the suburbs of Nassau County, Long Island, NY.
He actually had a real backyard with grass, trees and birds! Then later he moved again to Eastern Long Islands Suffolk County in the Port Jefferson-Mt. Sinai area. This is where he learned to wade fish the rocky beaches and loved to fly fish!
It was almost 20 years ago that his passion began for this down right civilized fine sport of fly fishing by catching Striped Bass, Bluefish, Northern Bonito and False Albies on fly off the beaches of the Long Island Sound, Montauk Point and south shore Moriches and Shinnecock inlets.
He has always been an active board member and club officer of numerous fly fishing clubs including the Eastern Fly Rodders of Long Island, South Florida Fly Fishing Club and the First Coast Fly Fishers.
Now a 10 year resident of Florida he was able to fish 12 months out of the year living in south Florida’s Broward County. He was the fly tying director in the South Florida Fly Fishing Club and an officer and Education Director for First Coast Fly Fishers in Jacksonville, Florida.
In addition he was elected to be Moderator on a couple of internet fishing website forums. His recent accomplishments include capturing 1st place best fly fisherman award in the JaxKayakFishing Classic annual tournament in 2007 and 2008.
He is currently a writer and new generation Federation of Fly fishers Certified Casting Instruction and enjoys teaching anything about saltwater fly fishing.
